"Hey Siri, turn on the porch lights."
Home automation just keeps getting better, and the wide array of products that support Apple's HomeKit have been designed to work safely and seamlessly with your Apple devices. Pretty soon you'll be able to control just about everything in your house through your phone, and you'll laugh about the "old days" when you had to get out of bed to turn off the bathroom light. But if you're like the many people who are still cautious about all these new products, light bulbs are a great starting place.
Until now, it wasn't as simple as buying a couple of light bulbs, you also had to purchase a hub to communicate with the bulbs. Sylvania just released a HomeKit compatible bulb that requires no hub. I purchased two for our front porch. Not only were they easy to setup, but they are a lot of fun! My kids love that we can say "Hey Siri, turn on the porch lights"! They also love that you can change the color of the bulbs right from the phone (for Halloween, our lights were Orange). Pick them up on Amazon:
